How accurate are they?

Every result is calculated, not typed in: the positions of the Sun and Moon are computed for your date and place, converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, and the traditional rules are applied — the tithi at sunrise names the day, Ekadashi follows the Smarta rule, Pradosh is kept when Trayodashi covers the evening, and so on.

  • Vrat and festival days: 178 of 178 matched Drik Panchang on our test set (Ekadashi 2016, 2026 and 2036; Pradosh, Sankashti, Purnima, Amavasya, Vinayaka Chaturthi and Masik Shivaratri for 2026).
  • Timings — sunrise, sunset, moonrise, Rahu Kalam, tithi and nakshatra end times, Parana and puja windows: all 1,232 checks within a minute of Drik Panchang; most to the exact minute.
  • Birth nakshatra, rashi and lagna: agree with Swiss Ephemeris to about an arcsecond.

Different panchangs can legitimately differ by a minute because they use different planetary models, and a festival can fall on different days in different traditions. When your family follows a particular panchang, go by it.

Frequently asked questions

Are these calculators free?

Yes. Every calculator is free and needs no sign-in. Results update for any date and any city in India.

How accurate are they?

We check the calculations against Drik Panchang for several cities and years: on our test set every vrat date (178 of 178) and tithi name matches, and over 1,200 timings agree within a minute. Birth nakshatra, rashi and lagna agree with Swiss Ephemeris to about an arcsecond.

Why do results depend on the city?

The Hindu day begins at local sunrise, and muhurats are fractions of local daylight or night. Sunrise differs by more than an hour across India, so festival days and timings can change with the city.

Which calendar system do you follow?

The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, with lunar months shown in both the amanta (South and West India) and purnimanta (North India) systems. Vrat days follow the Smarta rules used by most panchangs.
