- Daylight (sunrise to sunset) is divided into 15 equal muhurtas.
- The 8th muhurta, centred on local noon, is Abhijit.
- Many traditions do not use Abhijit on Wednesdays.

Frequently asked questions
Is Abhijit Muhurat good for starting a business or buying a vehicle?
Yes — Abhijit is traditionally used for new beginnings, purchases and travel when a detailed muhurat is not available. For marriage, griha pravesh and upanayanam, families usually still ask a pandit for a full muhurat.
Why not on Wednesday?
Classical texts say Abhijit is not auspicious on Wednesdays, so most panchangs advise choosing another time that day.
