About Maha Mrityunjaya Homam

Families traditionally arrange it during serious illness, before surgery, on the birthdays of elders or on Mondays, praying for health, recovery and long life. The mantra is chanted a fixed number of times (often 108 or 1,008) with offerings of ghee, herbs and durva into the fire.
