About Bhoomi Pooja (Sankusthapana)
Bhoomi Pooja, also called Sankusthapana, is performed before construction begins on a plot, seeking the blessings of Bhoomi Devi (Mother Earth) and Vastu Purusha. It is done on an auspicious muhurtham, usually at the north-east corner of the site where the foundation stone is laid. The ritual includes Ganapathi puja, Vastu puja, navadhanya offerings and the laying of the first stone.

- Five or nine bricks / stones for the foundation
- Navaratnas or panchaloha pieces
- Kalasham, coconuts and mango leaves
- Turmeric, kumkum, akshata and flowers
- A new spade or pickaxe
- Navadhanyam
- Fruits, betel leaves, sweets, camphor and incense
