Sloka 2.47
karmaṇyevādhikāraste mā phaleṣu kadācana |
mā karmaphalaheturbhūrmā te saṅgo’stvakarmaṇi ||
You have a right to your actions, but never to their results. Do not let the results of action be your motive, and do not become attached to not acting.
About chapter 2
Arjuna surrenders to Krishna as his disciple, and Krishna begins to teach. The soul is eternal: it is never born and never dies, so the wise do not grieve. Krishna explains one’s own duty (svadharma), action without attachment to results, and the qualities of a person of steady wisdom (sthitaprajña). Many of the Gita’s best-known verses, including 2.47, are in this chapter.
