Shri Krishna said: You grieve for those who are not to be grieved for, and yet you speak words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
About chapter 2
Arjuna surrenders to Krishna as his disciple, and Krishna begins to teach. The soul is eternal: it is never born and never dies, so the wise do not grieve. Krishna explains one’s own duty (svadharma), action without attachment to results, and the qualities of a person of steady wisdom (sthitaprajña). Many of the Gita’s best-known verses, including 2.47, are in this chapter.
