What is a annaprashan muhurat?
Annaprashan is the baby’s first solid food — usually rice kheer — in the sixth or eighth month for a boy and the fifth or seventh for a girl.

How a annaprashan date is chosen
- Nakshatra: Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, the three Uttaras, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha or Revati.
- Tithi: Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami or Trayodashi.
- Weekday: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday; daytime, ideally before noon.
- Not on Sankranti or an eclipse day, and without harsh yogas or Vishti karana.

How are these annaprashan dates calculated?
From the positions of the Sun and Moon for each day (Lahiri ayanamsa), applying the rules of Muhurta Chintamani: nakshatra: ashwini, rohini, mrigashira, punarvasu, pushya, the three uttaras, hasta, chitra, swati, anuradha, shravana, dhanishtha, shatabhisha or revati, and the other conditions listed on this page. Do the timings change with my city?
Slightly. A muhurat starts or ends when the tithi or nakshatra changes, which happens at the same moment everywhere, or at sunrise, which differs by city. Times here are IST for New Delhi; check the sunrise for your city on our Panchang and your pandit will confirm.
Is a date enough, or do I need a lagna too?
