Hanuman Jayanti katha
Characters: Anjana and Kesari, Vayu, the wind god, Baby Hanuman, Indra
Anjana, an apsara born on earth, prayed to Shiva for a son, and by the blessing of Vayu Hanuman was born to her and King Kesari.
As a hungry infant he saw the rising sun and, thinking it a ripe fruit, leapt into the sky to eat it. Indra struck him with his vajra to protect the sun, and Hanuman fell, his jaw (hanu) injured — the source of his name.
Angered, Vayu withdrew the air from all the worlds until the devas restored the child and blessed him with strength, wisdom and immortality.
Message: Great strength used in humble service is the greatest strength of all.
