When is Dussehra 2027? Vijayadashami (Dussehra / Dasara) 2027 is on Saturday, 9 October 2027, the tenth day of Ashwin Shukla Paksha, after Sharad Navratri.
What is the best time for Vijayadashami puja? The Aparajita and Shami puja is done in the aparahna (afternoon); the Vijay muhurat in the afternoon is considered best for new beginnings.
Dates are calculated by Rutviju’s panchang for sunrise at Hyderabad; in a few places a tithi can fall a day apart, and your pandit confirms the muhurat for Adilabad.
What is Vijayadashami Puja?
Vijayadashami Puja is the worship of Goddess Aparajita and the Shami tree on Dussehra, the tenth day after Navratri, celebrating the victory of good over evil — Rama over Ravana and Durga over Mahishasura. With Rutviju a verified pandit comes home for the Aparajita and Shami puja, the visarjan of the Navratri kalash, Ayudha and vehicle puja, or a child’s Aksharabhyasam on this all-auspicious day.
Vijayadashami Puja in Adilabad
Telugu families do Shami (Jammi) puja on Vijayadashami, exchange Jammi leaves as gold, see the Palapitta bird for luck, and many begin Aksharabhyasam on this day.
Pandits follow the Telugu Smarta and Vaishnava traditions: mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, and the sankalpam and explanations are given in Telugu. Muhurthams follow the Telugu panchangam (Chandramana calendar).
