What is Chandi Homam?
Chandi Homam is a fire ritual to Goddess Chandi (Durga) with the 700 verses of the Devi Mahatmyam (Durga Saptashati), for victory over obstacles and enemies, protection, and prosperity. It is most often performed during Navaratri.
The Devi Mahatmyam, from the Markandeya Purana, tells of the goddess defeating Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura and Shumbha-Nishumbha. In the homam its 13 chapters are recited with offerings into the fire, and the goddess is worshipped with suvasini and kanya pooja.
