What is Griha Pravesh Pooja?
Griha Pravesh (Gruhapravesam) is the ceremony of entering a new home for the first time at an auspicious muhurtham. It usually combines Ganapati pooja, punyahavachanam, Vastu Shanti, Navagraha pooja or homam and, in many families, a Satyanarayana Vratham.
Griha Pravesh Pooja in Machilipatnam
A Telugu gruhapravesam usually closes with the Satyanarayana Vratham the same day; the lady of the house carries the kalasam in and milk is boiled till it overflows on the new stove.
Pandits follow the Telugu Smarta and Vaishnava traditions: mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, and the sankalpam and explanations are given in Telugu. Muhurthams follow the Telugu panchangam (Chandramana calendar).
